2024-2025 Recap

2024-2025 was another busy year for the NCSU soil judging team. The team placed 3rd at the regional contest hosted by University of Kentucky from October 7-10, 2024.
Noah Puckett placed 1st overall with Richard Williams (3rd) and Francesca Gervase (4th) also placing within the top 10.

The 2025 National Soil Judging Contest was hosted by University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point from April 27-May 2, 2025. The team learned a lot about glacial soils and sand! Overall the team placed 4th of 24 teams in the country, extending the NCSU team’s record consecutive top 10 finishes at the nationals to 5 in a row. The team also placed 4th in group judging, the highest placement in that event since 2009.

Weather was cold/windy/wet in northern Wisconsin. Lots of sand, Alfisols, Inceptisols, Entisols in varied glacial deposits.

 

We saw the world’s largest potato masher, and learned we placed 4th as we entered the Minneapolis Airport to fly home on May 2nd.
