NC State Soil Judging Places 10th in the Nation, Longest Top 10 Streak in Program History

The NCSU Soil Judging Team participated in the 2023 National Soil Judging Contest hosted by Oklahoma State University in Woodward, OK (March 26-31, 2023). The team saw many different soils from sand dunes with carbonates, to residual red bed soils.

The team placed 10th overall (out of 24 teams) in difficult conditions, including a dust storm during the group judging event! This marks the first time in program history NCSU has placed in the top 10 nationally in 3 consecutive years. Photos below and congrats to the team!

Nice example of secondary carbonates as masses and filaments. Ustic moisture regime results in translocation of calcium carbonate. Bk horizon in red beds.
